The editors code consists of 16 areas- Eight of these areas have public interest exceptions, which means if you can prove public interest, you may breach the code.

The 8 areas are:

  1. Privacy;
  2. Harassment;
  3. Children;
  4. Children in sex cases;
  5. Hospitals;
  6. Reporting crime;
  7. Clandestine devices and subterfuge;
  8. Payment to criminals.

Clause 3- Privacy

  • Everyone is entitles to respect for their private and family life, home, health and correspondence, including digital communications;
  • It is unacceptable to photograph individuals in a private place without their consent.

An example of two celebrities suing for invasion of privacy is Cara Delevigne and Jenifer Lawrence. They sued Google over leaked naked pictures. They are threatened to sue Goodge for £60 Million over the nude photographs that were leaked.
